About University

In years of independence the attitude to religion and submitters been basically changed, after the era of atheism that was predominant in soviet period was over. Established thanks to the Independence in 1999, Tashkent Islamic University plays essential role in spiritual enlightening and social cultural life of the republic.
It is important to emphasize that by the initiative of the President Islam Karimov the old and sacred region of Tashkent city where located the mausoleums of Yunuskhon and Sheikh Khovandi Tokhur was given to the management of the university. Taking this into consideration, scientific pedagogical staff formed and provided to train the youth in the spirit of being heir to the heritage of our ancestors and international values.
Being unique in the Central Asia, TIU gave an opportunity for rebirth of rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Islam that is a holy belief of our people, and for a close study of religious cultural and enlightening masterpieces of great scholars. Basing on studying both religious and secular sciences, which based totally and principally on scientific theoretical methods, during 5 years after the opening (ceremony) of the university it has been engaged in continuous efforts on training highly skilled specialists who are able to do research works on different aspects of this area.
It is important to notice that the activity of the university is based on three main pillars, such as educational methodical process, scientific theoretical researches and religious enlightening arrangements.
First of all, the state standards on religious and secular sciences those taught at the university are worked out. At the moment, main educational methodical subjects are sources on basics of Islam, the Qur'an and Hadiths studies, History and Philosophy of Islam that are left by our ancestors.
In addition, since 2000 at the university there are courses on improvement of professional skills for the staff of the state and social institutions have been carried out. There well-known scholars and specialists of the republic are giving lectures on actual subjects such as religion and spirituality, the idea of national independence, struggle of ideologies in Islam and religious extremism, the history of World religions, the basics of spiritual and religious studies.
Secondly, not only Muslim world, but also the others recognized Movarounnahr as the region of scientific, cultural development, especially, Islamic development from theoretical point of view. The great scholars of medieval times that were born and grew up in our region begun new era of developing such subjects as interpretation of Qur'an, Hadiths studies, Islamic law and literature.
In order to rebirth, close study and analyze invaluable religious spiritual heritage of our ancestors and inculcate upon its scientific usage at TIU was founded scientific-research center on Islamic Studies.
At the moment, scholars of the center having been conducted search for scientific grants, innovations, fundamental projects and researches on prioritizing directions of historical, scientific, educational, spiritual and Islamic spheres. In addition, such fundamental researches as "Religious fanaticism and its threat to peaceful development of society", "The role of the Qur'an and Hadith in the struggle against religious fanaticism", "The study of the Qur'an and its interpretations, and their scientific analysis", "Hadith studies in Central Asia and its steps of development", "The scientific analysis of Islamic law, Sharia, sources of Islamic jurisprudence", "A research on sources of history and philosophy of Islam, culture and art" are accustomed to the state program of Science and Technological Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
One of the goals of huge fundamental scientific research done at the university is "The translation and interpretation of the meanings of the Holy Qur'an" by A.Mansurov, which has been published in Uzbek and Arab languages. Prepared by our scholars "The light of Islam in the image of Uzbeks" reflects religious spiritual life of our republic in independence years. It was issued "Islamic law. Hanafi school of law and fuqaho (lawyers) of Central Asia by A.Juzjoni and also his many other educational methodical text books. The students of the university are also taking an active part in educational process. Especially, by the students there were created electronic versions of "The translation of the meaning of the Holy Qur'an", "The Electronic version of Hadith", "The web-site of TIU" and others.
Thirdly, religious spiritual arrangements compose fundamental life of the university. As this process is all-embracing, there is full information in this prospectus. So we will try to count some of them.
In order to develop spiritual enlightening organization according to national and religious values, improve educational process, and religious, enlightening, political, economical and juridical culture at the university there was established Council of Tutors. More than 50 clubs are functioning. In order to enrich knowledge of the students, broaden their outlook in the university. And for attracting talented students attention to scientific-theoretical researches there was founded Scientific union of Students. Studio «Ziyo» (The Light) is managing by students. The programs of the studio under the title of «On the way of strengthening belief» have been broadcasted on the first channel of the national television for over 60 million of the Central Asian people. Our students also prepare the special programs showed on TV in the period of Ramadan. So, the role of the students in spiritual enlightening activity of the university is enormous.
Nowadays it is necessary to protect our youth from influence of different extremist groups and by training them as sophisticated individuals with firm belief, these students would become models of imitation.
The activity of TIU is enriching by the years. At the moment, the university presents itself as a complex of union of doctorate, post-graduate, graduate, academic lyceum and specialized school. The university has established relations with many international organizations, universities and scientific research centers.
As it was stated by many statesmen and leaders of different international organizations visited our university, the main role on providing religious tolerance and interethnic friendship is assigned to the university.
Concluding, in the core of the success of the university underlies rich scientific heritage of our ancestors and ideas of individual perfection. So, the main aim of the university is bringing religious scientific and spiritual enlightening heritage of our ancestors to the public.
